Survived is one-of-one deeply personal painting created after an apartment fire that changed my life. In the midst of destruction, I was only able to save two original works: Earth Motherland and King Melanin. This piece exists because survival demanded remembrance.
The figures represent protection, endurance, and love under pressure. Smoke and fire move through the composition as evidence of trauma, not spectacle. The scars remain visible, because survival does not erase damage—it carries it forward.
This painting is about what endures when everything else is threatened. Survived honors resilience, legacy, and the power of art to withstand loss. It is proof that even after devastation, creation remains.
